Most of the ire from fans stems from the fact that their only exposure to Patricia&#39;s connection to Jim was through the unfortunate and FICTIONALISED filter of Oliver Stone&#39;s hack job &quot;The Doors&quot; (film), and the fact that they wanted Pamela and Jim to be a tragic romance to the exclusion of all others. Nothing is ever that simple. What I read in this book was a straight-forward, intensely personal account of Patricia&#39;s time with Jim on earth, and her time with and without him after his death. She is a whiplash writer, cracking wit, touching emotion and precise expression, and the story is a love letter, a diary and an open letter all in one. I finished this book with a respect (add, strangely, a protectiveness) for Patricia, and I felt grateful to have read her singular experiences with a public figure whose memory is tangled in the vines of rumour and speculation.
